Amnesty International

Amnesty International is the world’s leading human rights organisation with more than seven million supporters worldwide.

In 2016 to 2018 CILIP worked in partnership with Amnesty International UK to award the Amnesty CILIP Honour, a commendation for one book from each Medal Shortlist that most distinctively illuminated, upheld or celebrated human rights. Amnesty and CILIP are very proud of the impact the commendation has had in raising awareness of the power of children’s books to explore human rights, encourage empathy and broaden horizons.

Amnesty are proud to see the values of the Amnesty CILIP Honour upheld through the Shadowers’ Choice Award, launched by CILIP in 2019, which strongly upholds children’s human right to a voice.

CILIP and Amnesty International UK are pleased to continue to work in partnership to raise awareness of human rights through a human rights education and training programme. We will raise awareness and understanding of human rights for children and young people who shadow the Awards, their group leaders and the shortlisted authors and illustrators.
