Away With Words
This was a great book. I love how words were visible in the story and would look different depending on moods and personalities. I also liked how some pages had words around the edges.

The Door of No Return
I wasn't able to understand this book but its layout was a bit different and interesting.

Great book. I like how the author intentionally spells things the way Growls hears and understands them.

The best Carnegie book, by far. I love growls and its got a bit of everything, romance, comedy and very relatable. A song made into a book

Mathew

Safiyyah's War
This book I didn't completely like, as it was too slow at the start and wasn't really my genre. Although, the book had redeeming qualities like the plot. I think this book would be good for some, but wasn't really for me.

Away With Words
This book was confusing at first, but in time I grew to love the authors writing. This book is all about two girls and how they have to face the world together. This book is fantasy, but its really well portrayed like its real.

This book was interesting and I hadn't read anything like it before. The whole book was based on the main character ( Shaun ) and has best friend (Shanks) who embark on their journey to hopefully become famous rappers. this book makes you feel strong emotions for nearly all the characters, which is a really important book quality for me. Amazing book!

The Boy Lost in the Maze
A different book to say the least but very enjoyable. I like the way that there is a multiple choice but I wish there were different story lines.

The Song Walker
I liked the theme of the book, and its different to most genres and plots. There are lots of twists and turns that you could never expect to happen. This book was really good, and I would recomend this book to people who love adventure and mystery.

Choose Love
I don't really read poetry but I have to say this was a very good collection of poems. I thought the illustrations were beautiful. My favourite poem was ' Unbroken'. I think the author shared some wonderful messages through this book.

Crossing the Line
I quite enjoyed this book. It wasn't as dark as I expected but there were still some moments that I wasn't sure about. Crossing the line had a really important message that I think everyone should learn about. I really liked the ending of this book and overall it was far better than I expected.

The Boy Lost in the Maze
I have read this book and stopped about half way through. There were too many bad words and it was not the book for me. I do think it is great because of Greek mythology and different story lines but over all i would rate it 6/10.

I wasn't sure about this book. It took me a long time to get used to the way it was written. I just didn't think it was anything special. I found it quite boring really.

Hannah

The Door of No Return
I wasn't sure if I would like this book or not because it covered themes I haven't really read about and was written in verse, but once I got stuck into this book I couldn't stop till I finished it. There where some words I didn't know but overall this is an amazing book.

I loved this book! The story covers a lot of serious topics in a way that made me laugh out loud more than once. The story focuses on when things don't quite go to plan for Growls who wants to be an online rap sensation and date the popular girl at school. A great story that hooked some of our more reluctant readers. Highly recommend!

Choose Love
A simple but touching story that's based on true events. It was great.

Crossing the Line
I enjoyed reading this novel because it was interesting and revolved around a kid having to make decisions. There was one thing that I was worried about, I found there were quite a few swear words which might upset other people. Over all I would rate this book 8/10

JUDAH

Safiyyah's War
I thought this was a great book that gave an interesting insight into the characters lives. It was well written and had great characters. I didn't think it was my sort of book but I liked it all the same.

Hannah

Crossing the Line
Such a moving book, beautifully written in verse with a main character who completely draws you in. Emotional, funny, and dark at times, I couldn’t put it down. Definitely aimed towards the slightly older pupils in our school.

Away With Words
I really liked this book because it reminded me of the power words have. I think that 'Away with Word's is one of the best books I have read and I will definitely read it again.

Hannah

The Door of No Return
A masterpiece. I don't like verse poems but this book changed that, with its descriptive writing, it felt as I was there. I love the way this book was based on true events but it is still fiction. Excellent choice by Carnegies.

The Boy Lost in the Maze
The Boy Lost in the Maze is a wonderful story all written in free verse. There are three storylines running throughout the book. First, we have Theo, a teenage boy who is searching for his father. At school he is working on a project about Theseus, and through this we follow the story of Theseus and his search for his own father. We also read about Minotaur who is searching for a sense of identity. The book is a brilliant and original way of retelling one of the most famous Greek myths. Very different to the usual books we offer and can be a little confusing at times but worth a read.
